LEFT HAND HESITATES
 

Project in collaboration with Ellakajsa Nordström.

A professional piano tuner was invited to instruct one of the artists in how to tune a piano. With no prior experience in articulating his knowledge in words, he communicates his instructions to Anne-Liis, who attempts to tune a piano for the first time. The dialogue around the listening process is carried out in Estonian. The event is interpreted by Ellakajsa, who, as a non-Estonian speaker, provides a simultaneous, written observation of the event projected live in an adjoining room. The audience was invited to wander between the rooms while observing the various stages of communication, translation and exchange unfolding between the three performers as the piano was being tuned.
